Every amount is a positive number. A forty-dollar grocery shop is 40, not -40, and the category decides which way the money moved. That one decision removes the most common mistake people make in a budget file, a minus sign in the wrong place turning a bad month green. Money moved into savings counts as Save rather than spending, because it leaves your checking account but it does not leave you. Rolling the month over is one date on Setup; Transactions stays untouched, because that history is what every trend here is built from.
